Nij Tontisirin

Dr.Tontisirin is currently an assistant professor in urban planning at the Faculty of Architecture and Planning, Thammasat University in Thailand. She was a lecturer in Architecture and Planning at Thammasat University from 2003 to 2016. Her academic experience also includes a former teaching assistant at Department of City and Regional Planning and GIS workshop instructor at Cornell University. Dr.Tontisirin received her Bachelor of Architecture (First Class Honors) from Chulalongkorn University in Thailand, a Master in Urban Planning from Harvard University, and a Master and a Ph.D. in Regional Science from Cornell University, USA. Her research interests focus on land uses, land regulations, and how these factors affect people’s decisions on usage of their lands. She came to aware that laws and public policies can directly shape people’s well-beings, both economically and socially. Her current research with the Asian Development Bank on land value capture (LVC) in Thailand highlights legal and institutional challenges in implementing the LVC in Thailand in which has made Dr.Tontisirin realize that profound understanding of the rule of law is crucial in successful policy formulation and implementation.
